Careful planning, realistic assessment of our needs, and an effort to permeate the architectural design with Chan simplicity and purity brought about a project comprising of five buildings and functioning as a modern reinterpretation of a traditional mountain "hamlet". The central building will house the Chan hall and the accompanying facilities. One building is intended for dining, one for administration and study, and two for accommodation. Every building, however, has a multifunctional character. The Chan hall is at the same time a yoga and kempo training hall, the dining hall is a classroom, the dormitories are studios for prolonged stays. The technologies applied, design and construction methods will ensure high energy efficiency of all buildings with minimum negative environmental impact.
